If you are getting married in the near future, you're planning for what will be one of the most important days of your life: the day you marry the love of your life. Those plans more than likely include having your wedding portraits taken. Read on for some ideas that might help you have the most beautiful portraits that you can imagine.

First, find a photographer who specializes in special event photography. Maybe you saw a friend's wedding portrait and you knew instantly that you'd want to use the same photographer. On the other hand, maybe you have to find a photographer all on your own. Even if you aren't comfortable going to the photographer's place of business in person, he or she can show you a portfolio of past work online. Doing that will help you to determine if you want to use that photographer or if you want to keep looking.

You might be limited to where you can have your portraits taken. No worries! There are safe places that will be perfect settings.

  • Your own house might have a beautiful place for your wedding portrait. For instance, maybe your living room has a gorgeous fireplace that would be an excellent backdrop for your portrait, especially if you want a very formal portrait.
  • Does your house have an exceptionally beautiful front or back yard? If so, wouldn't that be a good place to have the photography done?
  • Do you live close enough to a beach or to a park that would be available for wedding photography? Picture yourself in your wedding dress but wearing no shoes at all. That would certainly result in a fun and unique portrait.
  • Maybe your town or city has a landmark, perhaps a museum, that has lovely grounds and that would be a good place for your wedding portrait to be taken. Even if the facility is closed to the public, the outside might still be a good option. Be sure to get permission to use the facility first.

Besides your own ideas, talk to the wedding photographer. He or she might suggest something you would never consider. For instance, the photographer might suggest that at least some of the shots be taken at night with the stars and the moon as part of your wedding portrait setting. If you keep an open mind, you're sure to end up with wedding portraits that help make your happy day even more memorable.
